Class 5 student raped; suspect arrested in Lalmonirhat

Police arrested a man last night on charges of raping a class five student at her home in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.

Confirming the arrest, Patgram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sumar Kumar Mahanta said the victim's mother filed a case in this connection.

The arrested has been identified as Rezwan Islam (28) of the upazila.

Police said the child was home alone yesterday when her neighbour Rezwan entered the house and raped her.

Rezwan fled when locals rushed to the house hearing screams of the victim.

On information, police went to the spot and sent the victim to Patgram Upazila Health Complex.

The mother alleged that Rezwan had been harassing her daughter for last several months.
