Father ‘kills’ 8-month-old boy after argument with his wife in capital’s Dakshinkhan
An eight-month-old baby died after his father allegedly slammed him against the floor several times following an argument with his mother in Dhaka's Dakshinkhan area this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Quader Jilani Rabbi, the only son of rickshaw puller Rafiqul Islam and his wife Rahima Khatun.
Police detained Rafiqul after the murder.
The incident took place around 2:00pm at Munshi Market area. Rafiqul allegedly slammed the baby against the ground several times, said Aftab Uddin, inspector (operations) of Dakshinkhan Police Station.
Quoting the victim's mother, the police officer said the couple used to live in a rented house in the area but they were recently evicted after failing to pay the rent for four months.
Rafiqul, along with his family, then took shelter at his sister's house nearby where the couple got into an argument today. At one stage, the father threw the baby on the ground repeatedly, leaving him dead on the spot, the police officer said.
The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
