First Covid-19 case reported in Meherpur

A local health worker of a non-government organisation has tested coronavirus positive in Mujibgangar upazila of Meherpur.

The man, aged around 35 and a health worker of Brac, is the first Covid-19 patient in the district, said Meherpur Civil Surgeon Dr Nasir Uddin.

The civil surgeon said his samples were collected and sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) four days back. Today, the test report came back Covid-19 positive, he said.

The patient will be treated at home as his physical condition is still good, the civil surgeon added.

Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Ataul Gani said 10 houses including the house of the patient have been locked down.
