Confirming the development to The Daily Star, Jakir Hossain, deputy commissioner of the district, said the lockdown came into effect from last night at 10pm. 

The district's Civil Surgeon Dr Selim Miah said samples of the two people were collected and sent to the coronavirus testing laboratory of Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) after being informed that the duo retuned to Joypurhat from Covid-19 hotspot Narayanganj.

The results of the test were confirmed yesterday and the duo was found infected with Covid-19, said the civil surgeon.

He added that they have collected samples of 135 Narayanganj returnees over the last few days and sent those to the RMC laboratory to perform Covid-19 tests. Of the published 88 results, the two mentioned are the only Covid-19 positive cases in the district till now.
