Nur Hossain sentenced to life term in arms case, acquitted in extortion case

Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court Judge Sabina Yasmin passed the order in presence of the accused around noon today, our Narayanganj correspondent reports.

The court also acquitted Nur and seven of his associates in another case filed for extortion, said Narayanganj's Additional Public Prosecutor Jasmin Ahmed.

The accused were acquitted in the extortion case as the charges brought against Nur and his aides could not be proved.

Meanwhile, Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge's Court Judge Anisur Rahman passed an order to start trial in a corruption case filed against Nur.

The court will record statements of the witnesses on February 18.

Earlier in the day, Nur was taken to Narayanganj court from Kashimpur jail. After the verdict announcement he was taken back to Kashimpur jail.

Police in 2014 filed three cases against Nur under the arms act.

Besides, Nur is accused in Narayanganj seven-murder and five other cases.
