The number of physicians infected with Covid-19 across the country has crossed 400, according to a tally by the Bangladesh Doctors Foundation.

The number of physicians infected with Covid-19 across the country has crossed 400 tonight, according to a tally by the Bangladesh Doctors Foundation.

More than 400 doctors from government, private and specialised hospitals have been infected with Covid-19 till 10:00pm, Nirupam Das, chief administrator of the foundation, told The Daily Star.

"It is very alarming that increased numbers of doctors are being infected every day," he said, adding three-fourths of the doctors are from the hospitals and other healthcare service centres in Dhaka Division.

The foundation came up with number based on reports from their members at different hospitals.

Many doctors have been alleging that the rate of infection among them has been high because of "poor quality" of personal protective equipment (PPE), community transmission of the virus and patients' concealment of Covid-19 symptoms.

A doctor of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital who was infected with the virus, died at Kurmitola General Hospital on April 15.
