PM must initiate step for dialogue: Badruddoza
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina must initiate steps for holding a dialogue and BNP chief Khaleda Zia should response positively to resolve the ongoing political crisis, Bikolpodhara Bangladesh President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury said today.
"Sheikh Hasina will have to take the initiative as she is the prime minister of the country," said Chowdhury, also the former president.
He came up with the remark while observing a token hunger strike at the party headquarters on Kuril Biswa road in Dhaka.
As the strike began at 11:00am, general people signed on a piece of white cloth to express their solidarity with the demands.
The hunger strike will continue till 5:00pm, said Badruddoza's personal secretary Jahangir Alam.
On January 25, Chowdhury threatened that he would embark on a countrywide mass hunger strike if the Awami League and BNP chiefs fail to hold dialogue within a week.
"There is no alternative to dialogues...to save democracy as well as the economy," the former president told a press conference at his Baridhara residence on that day.
On February 2, Chowdhury again urged them to sit in a dialogue; however there was no response to the call whereupon he has urged the nation to unite in his hunger strike calling for dialogue between the two leaders.
