Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the smart cards for driving licences will be issued in phases from February.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the smart cards for driving licences will be issued in phases from February.

"I know there are a lot of applications waiting," Quader said adding, the long wait for applicants for the smart cards is coming to an end.

"We hope that the work of issuing driving licences will start in phases from February," Quader said while addressing a videoconference with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA). 

"We are instructing the BRTA to clear the backlog by increasing the manpower and working on days off if necessary to expedite the licensing process," Quader said.

Instructing the BRTA to eliminate the tyranny of the brokers, he said, "Some people have collusion with the brokers; we have to get out of this situation."
