A Dhaka court today sentenced two persons to death for killing two five-year-old girls in Demra, Dhaka last year.

Judge Jayasree Sammader of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 pronounced the judgement in presence of the two convicts -- Golam Mostofa (28) and Azizul Bawany alias Azizul Bowly (28) -- in the courtroom.

The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each, which will be given to the families of the victims.

On January 7 last year, Nusrat Jahan (5), daughter of Palash Howlader, and Fariha Akter Dola (5), daughter of Faridul Islam, went missing from Demra's Konapara area.

Later, their bodies were discovered from Golam Mostofa's house.

Palash Howlader filed a case in this regard with Demra Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on January 8 last year.

According to the case documents, Mostafa had raped Dola while both of the suspects attempted to rape Nusrat before killing them.

The suspects had lured the children to a flat and confined them to a room. The men strangled the girls after they started screaming, according to police.
