Uber sets up free eye check-up camp for driver-partners
Popular ride-hailing service Uber has set up a free week-long eye check-up camp for nearly 1,000 driver-partners in Dhaka.
This initiative is part of Uber’s recently launched Road Safety Campaign in Bangladesh, reiterating the company’s #SafetyAtHeart commitment.
Nearly 50 per cent of the people providing transport services in Bangladesh suffer from eyesight problems, and only a handful of them get proper treatment, according to a recent study by BRAC.
The eye check-up camp has been organised at the Green Light Centre of Uber in Uttara, in collaboration with Vision Aid Foundation, an NGO that works for social well-being.
“Good vision is a must for safe driving, and with this initiative we wish to make eye care facilities more accessible to driver-partners on our platform.” said Zulquar Quazi Islam, lead of Uber Bangladesh.
“Safety is a top priority at Uber, and we are determined to provide better on-road safety solutions to driver partners on our platform,” he added.
“Good eyesight is fundamental to safe driving, and the lack of same can have consequences. It is an important issue, and we are glad to be collaborating with Uber on this,” said Taufique Mohiuddin, chairman of Vision Aid Foundation.
Promoting on-road safety is a top priority in Uber’s month-long Road Safety Campaign. The campaign is designed to raise public awareness regarding the need for road safety, and encourage the best practices in this regard among the driver-partners and riders.
