Woman beaten to death in Jashore over throwing tissue paper at family graveyard

A woman was beaten to death in Jashore sadar's Balia Vekutia village last night over throwing a tissue at the family graveyard.

The deceased was identified as Benu Begum, 50, wife of Basarat Hossain of the village, our Benapole correspondent reports.

Benu Begum's brother Atiqur Rahman filed a case with the local police station over the death. He said that his sister's family always had disagreement over trivial matters.

Yesterday, one Abeda Khatun got into an argument with Benu over her throwing some tissue paper at the family graveyard, Atiqur said.

At one stage, Abeda hit Benu's chest with a brick, leaving her seriously injured, he added.

She was later taken to Jashore General Hospital, where an emergency department doctor declared her dead.

Delwar Hossain Khan, a doctor at the hospital, said Benu died before she was brought to the hospital and he suspected that it was due to a brain hemorrhage and injury to the neck.

Mariruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Jashore Kotwali Police Station said, police had been sent to the spot and efforts were being made to arrest the accused. The body has sent to the morgue for autopsy.

Abeda, meanwhile, is on the run.
