14th Amendment
It prescribes 45 reserved seats for women in the JS through proportionate distribution of the seats to the parties. Such a gender biased provision completely overlooks the long cherished demand of women to get elected through a direct vote. Article 10 of the constitution unambiguously says, "Steps shall to taken to ensure participation of women in all spheres of national life." It is, however, quite evident that direct participation in election upgrades their political importance and integrates them in national development scheme.
The mainstream political parties can resolve the problem by nominating at least 20 percent women candidates in JS polls.
