Admission crisis

Having read the commentary about "Admission test crisis" in your newspaper, and having seen the picture in your last Monday's edition showing a crowd of hundreds of parents anxiously waiting outside, while a photo showed a little girl sobbing at a desk in an examination room, I recalled the kind of admission test at Viqarunnessa Noon School in Dhaka 44 years ago, when my then 5 year-old son was eager to start school, as his two sisters already were studying there in KG II and in Class I. Well, there were also parents waiting outside, but maybe about 30 or so. The "admission test" was done on the front veranda of the building. There was the English alphabet written on an overhead banner, and when my son's turn came the teacher pointed at a letter on the above alphabet, asking him: "What is this?" His answer was: "I don't know." Again she pointed at another letter saying: "What is this?" Again he said, "I don't know." As she once again pointed at another letter asking him: "What is this?" he furiously replied: "Why do you ask me this! This is what I want to learn in school!" WELL, HE WAS ADMITTED!
