The right to protest is enshrined in our Constitution. Yet, when university students took to the streets to demand reform of the quota system, they have been slandered, and then beaten and pushed out by activists belonging to ruling party affiliated organisations. Many of the protesters were brutally beaten, one even with hammer, while the university administration remained silent or hostile. Finally, the ruling party activists even harassed university teachers who expressed solidarity with protesters. It was disappointing to see many had to suffer so much for exercising their rights protected by the Constitution.
