Attention BTTB
I discussed this problem with various officers in BTTB, but our first discussion was with the linemen who are employed by BTTB. The lineman explained that due to Internet telephony, this problem has become more regular although they could not explain it in detail.
Then I thought of talking to someone who knows Internet telephony and I was surprised with the reply. The first point was that BTTB has been involved in call termination and some of the carriers who have agreement with BTTB are providing their traffic through VoIP. For example, if you have called ID telephone, then once you have called from abroad you can see the ID number of Dhaka, but these were more frequent for the people who use calling card, which are cheaper and allow a long duration of call time.
But in the last two/three months, it has been observed that even if someone uses regular telephone lines like DEL CANADA, AT & T or French Telecom, the calls end up being terminated through local numbers. I am told that BTTB, a club member of Intelsat, and all the club members use the intelsat system (if not specified about VoIP) and hence call quality and reception were always better. But now-a-days it appears that those Intelsat members are either using VoIP through BTTB or through illegal operators.
I would like to know how we can avoid being sandwiched between the technology and the rate fight. We should be able to receive the faxes and calls properly for the sake of business and thus for the economy of the country. Can BTTB help us in solving this problem? We need an immediate solution to this problem and would appreciate any suggestions from the informed readers.
