Betrayed
I don't know what are the words to describe what I am feeling today, as I read The Daily Star lead news regarding the ban on Ahmadiyya books. Is it sadness, grief or just pure anger? I don't know, but I feel betrayed today by a party which I thought stood for something, a party that I was ready to forgive even when they had included the Jamaat in their fold. A leader I admired for her courage, still remembering her voice over the radio during the mass democracy movement in the early nineties. I thought then and believed since then that even though the party had a lot of shortcomings, at least it was headed by a person who had convictions. But, sadly, all these seem trivial now as I feel I have been betrayed. I guess in the greater context, it does not matter to them that I feel betrayed, what am I but just one voter among millions.
But I cannot remain silent, do the proponents of the ban really understand the path they are taking? I think not, if they did then they would know that it is only the One above who has the right to make the judgement that they have made or are about to make.
