Black Tuesday

IT can be classified as a black Tuesday in the history of the garment factories. As on this date a large section of marauding garment factory workers vandalised a good number of factories. The workers didn't stop there. They also torched innumerable cars and other transports and looted factory goods and cash to discharge their venom to the owners as well as loyal labour leaders. It is evident that this kind of mayhem was not possible without the assistance of outsiders. It is also important to note with due attention what our honourable minister of state for home affairs had said in a press conference. He said that they had prior information about the incident. However, they could not take appropriate action due to shortage of manpower. If I am not mistaken our honourable minister said the same thing when a spate of bombings had taken place all over Bangladesh by JMB. Now the question is, if the minister had prior information why didn't he take preventive steps to contain the situation. Moreover, we all know how desperate the government is to lure foreign investors to invest in Bangladesh to boost the economy of the country. Tuesday's happenings not only tarnished the image of Bangladesh abroad, but it also cast serious doubts on our minds if the foreigners would still be interested to set up their industries anymore or not in our country. It is strongly suggested that the government initiate an independent judicial probe into the matter and meet all long unfulfilled demands of both parties in an amicable way in order to save the industry.
