The recent car bombing outside the Australian embassy in Jakarta left at least eight people dead and injured almost hundred. The unfortunate victims were passers-by who were caught in the middle. The fortified Australian embassy ensured the safety of their stuffs. Fingers are pointed towards the al-Qaeda linked Jemaah Islamia (JI) who are also blamed for the notorious Bali bombing (2002) and the Marriott Hotel bombing (2003). In both incidents civilians had to bear the burnt of the attack.

Common people are becoming the victims of terrorist attacks. In the recent Belsan tragedy, innocent school children died for some cause they had no idea about. The execution of Nepalese in Baghdad or the hostage taking of the French nationals (whose country opposed the Iraq war) shows the indiscriminate action of the terrorists. Freedom fighters and terrorists are two different things. The line is becoming bleak or the cause is becoming more of an excuse to go on a personal vendetta.

It is no surprise that anti-Muslim sentiment is on the rise.
