BSF atrocities: Indian point of view

Let me try to present some reasons why BSF might consider the use of deadly force necessary.

1. Terrorism: Indian intelligence agencies believe that Bangladesh has become a conduit for terrorists, explosives, arms and ammunition. If

BSF is trying to prevent terrorists from entering India, their use of deadly force would be justified.

2. Smuggling: Indo-Bangla border sees a fair amount of smuggling in cattle, addictive cough medicine and other goods. The government of Bangladesh and BDR support cattle smuggling, according to a recent investigative report by an Indian journalist. Now people might argue that smuggling does not justify use of deadly force. But BSF claims that the smugglers are armed and will resort to use of deadly force themselves.

3. Illegal immigration: Indians believe that illegal immigration from Bangladesh is a major issue.

4. Attitude: Obviously there is bad blood between BSF and BDR. Both parties are probably responsible.

What can the Bangladesh government do to stop killing by BSF? Allowing fencing and joint patrols of BSF and BDR may be a good beginning. Stop smuggling and prevent illegal immigration.
