Comic genius
I have been watching animated TV shows and movies since the 1970s. My favourite characters were the adventurous ones, Johnny Quest, Tin Tin, Marine Boy, Speed Racer, and Charlie Brown. In Disney animation, Fantasia was a wonderful work of music and art. The other Disney animations that I really liked were Fa-Mulan, and Beauty and the Beast. Tin Tin, Johnny Quest, Speed Racer and a number of characters were always solving the mysteries. It could be Jim Henson's Muppets, or James and the Giant Peach. Here, I would really like to show the different presentations of Speed Racer in Japanese culture and American culture. I watched Speed Racer during the 1970s. However Speed Racer was invented in 1967. In Japan, the book Mach-Go-5 was made into animated characters. Trans-Lux productions bought the rights of Mach-Go-5 and translated all 52 episodes into English. The character was renamed Speed Racer. Very little was edited from the original shows. However, cultural differences resulted in one important change in the American version: "the focus of the story was shifted from the car to the character Speed Racer." I found this very interesting how the focus of the show was on the car according to the Japanese and how the American version edited very little and created or focused on the young man: Speed. I understand that there is war all over the world. There are differences in religion and government, cultural diplomacy, and the policies of commercialism, and inhumanity. However, American artists, writers, poets and filmmakers still believe that it is possible to use education and art to celebrate and to give the message of hope, peace, and humanism.
