It seems the handful of options that we, the poor common people, had are also disappearing. First, the BCS examinations under the PSC and now the High Court. The government has made the BCS recruitment process a murky affair, thanks to question leakage. Now it is time for the judges to show that they ARE part of our society.

Judges constitute the section of individuals who used to enjoy some sort of respect from the people. The pay scale of the judges are specially tailored, as there will always be lucrative 'offers' for them.

Unfortunately, High Court Additional Judge Syed Shahidur Rahman was not one of the lucky guys. He was charged with taking Tk 50,000 to fix bail for an accused in a women repression case. He is the first ever judge to get removed from office in the verdict of the Supreme Judicial Council on a judge's gross misconduct . However, Judge Shahidur Rahman said that it was politically motivated and he would fight against it.

The moral scour in one of the most respected section of the society is no good news for us. As corruption, nepotism and malpractice are becoming an integral part of the fabric of our society, the common people are struggling to find options that they can trust. If it deems it necessary, the government can review the pay scale and take other steps to put the highest judiciary and the judges above controversy.
