Crossfire

"Crossfire" has become a much talked about subject. Let's follow a simple logic. Human- being is neither immortal nor indispensable. If a certain individual poses threat to the society, if his existence becomes a menace to the populace, if he indulges in heinous activities then that individual forfeits his right to live. If his death benefits millions of peace-loving population then why should we lament his demise. All these people are noted and marked criminals and are beyond correction.

It reminds us of the situations prevailing in 1972-73. Dhaka was a city of hijacking in those days. People did not dare to go out in a car, lest it be hijacked. Lot many took off the tyres of the cars and locked them in garage. A 'special squad' of police was formed. They used to move in Toyota corona cars with an antenna sticking out from the roof . They penetrated the underground network and killed many criminals in 'encounters' and controlled the situation. Many will probably remember the early morning elimination of criminals near Shamsunnahar Hall of Dhaka University. People remained ever grateful to the squad. These are short term effective therapies. Short term therapy should be continued and long term measures should be devised to sustain the good results.

Most of the general population welcome the 'crossfire' phenomenon.
