Culture sans individualism
The countdown of the 31st night was very euphoric in Dhaka city. All became Byronic heroes on that night.
On DU campus, it was very palpable that the night of December 31, the last night of the year, was a night to get occidental. Without alcohol it would be trashy indeed. Security was a matter of concern. Vandalism and vulgarism were frequent and many people rushed to the TSC to celebrate the 31st night. Security personnel and university authorities faced nuisances to maintain normalcy and ward off untoward incidents.
We all should be savvy, but not imbecile enough to mimic an alien culture.
