A news item covered recently by a Bangla daily, that a young man died after taking drugs, drew my attention. The young man , Prokash, was a student of Mymensing Medical College. Prokash lived in Mymensingh for his studies. His classmates said that he had many friends. Among them, some were drug addicts. The addicts influenced him to take drug. Now he is dead , apparently due to overdosing of some strong drug.

Drug abuse is common in many societies these days. It is a kind of curiosity and a thrilling proposition that push the young generation towards drugs. Some take it out of curiosity, some under the influence of friends and still others to overcome depression .

Many young boys and girls have died like Prokash in their teenage. No place in the world is free from this curse.

Today boys and girls are studying in different places for better education. But in this situation how can parents send their sons or daughters away from their homes?

Addiction leads to many social and physical problems which ultimately ruin the lives of the addicts.

I don't know what precisely can be done to protect the adolescents highly vulnerable to addiction and other self-destructive habits. But I believe there should be some efforts on the part of parents and others concerned to inculcate self-discipline among the boys and girls, who may find nobody to guide them away from their homes.
