Daylong shutdown

The major opposition party along with six left leaning parties observed a daylong shutdown again on 6 March during the SSC examinations, protesting the brutal attack on Professor Azad. I think that the opposition is trying to make this a political issue which is as heinous as the attack on the professor.

The protests that we witnessed all over the country after the attack was the spontaneous reaction against fundamentalism, a protest to save democratic rights in our country. In my opinion, the opposition should refrain from calling hartal on this issue. One thing should be remembered here: journalists and intellectuals were attacked during the previous AL regime also. Journalist Tipu was grievously injured by the AL-backed miscreants at Feni. Now this process is continuing in a chain reaction.

I'll request our leaders in the government and in the opposition not to make this brutal attack on Prof. Azad a political issue. It's time to work together to maintain our non-communal and peaceful image. Only national unity can save our country from the clutches of fundamentalism.
