Death of a comedian

A small boxed news item was published in the DS on November 11, 2003 saying, "Comedian Hashmat no more." This reminded me of an incident that happened 29 years ago at Cox's bazar sea beach.

We, a group of students with our teachers from Lama Bazar Asad Ali Poura Boys's School in Chittagong, went there for excursion. Getting down from the bus, we saw comedian Hashmat walking with actor Farooq, clad in a white full pant and a white half-sleeved shirt. Both were known to us as we were fond of enjoying cinemas in our childhood. We enjoyed very much the exquisite performance he had shown in the movies by acting in different manners.

We had assumed that he was a funny man, but in reality he was very different. Rather, Farooq was more jovial of the two. Nevertheless, we remember Hashmat for the fun and amusement that he gave us as a comedian . May his soul rest in peace.
