Death traps for commuters
Recently, while travelling to work through the West Merul area, I noticed a middle-aged man being pulled out of a manhole that he had fallen into. Not long after, another teenage girl slipped into an open manhole at the bypass intersection near Gazipur; she did not survive, as per The Daily Star's reports. These accidents have become a common occurrence, especially for bike riders, in different parts of the city due to open manholes. Many have lost their lives.
It is a matter of sorrow that these vital issues are not being addressed by the concerned authorities. How many more deaths will it take for them to take action? Who should be responsible for this? It doesn't involve significant costs to cover manholes in the streets. Then why are the concerned authorities not paying heed to this issue?
