Decadent society
Twenty years back, my friend entered from opposite direction in a single way street in the suburb of Cairo, police stopped the car, after saying 'salaam' he wished him 'Happy Eid' while shaking his hand. Here, we only exchange cash, it was only few 'piasters' my friend passed when he shook the police man's hand.
A land full of people, and with scanty resources and opportunities; desperate and competing millions only find it effective when an extra is made to make their way.
You buy rice, milk, sugar, salt, turmeric, a Television or a piece of land; getting education, utility connections; to get a grievance published in the newspaper, to seek a legal course - CORRUPTION, CORRUPTION and CORRUPTION.
As corruption becomes usual, so its denial, no one accepts that he is involved, rarely takes a position against it.
The nation was told, how a small sprat like a janitor or a CBA man made his fortune out of keeping the door or moving the files or influencing the management. No one seems moved by the stories, not the barrister, not the TIB man, not any civil rights group or any of those fun filled media men who could rise to the occasion and file a public interest litigation, instead of talking about the vice to the whole world.
The value of this society, whatever existed before our holy fight for spirited sanctity, much of it evaporated due to nourishment of greed and falsehood.
Journalists need to work a little harder to prove their worth.
