Democracy in Bangladesh
Perhaps President Abraham Lincoln gave the most lucid definition of democracy-- 'Government of the people, by the people and for the people'. But this seems to be totally out of tune in the context of Bangladesh. Democracy, as it is functioning in Bangladesh, may aptly be described as 'Government of the corrupt, by the corrupt and for the corrupt'. Election victory here literally means an unfettered right to plunder public wealth. Irrespective of party affiliation, politicians in Bangladesh are shameless characters who do not have the slightest hesitation to cause incalculable damage to the country and the people to advance their own cause.
People can't also count on the third force for bailing them out, for very obvious reasons. So only God can save us from the clutches of these self-seekers.
