Destruction of national universities

The process of destroying our national universities has been going on for some years. As I passed only very recently from Dhaka University, I have first-hand experience with the process.

The saga begins with the change of the vice-chancellor (VC). The criterion for filling up each and every key administrative post is party allegiance. For example, you can't be a proctor or a hall provost if you are not on the ruling party members' "yes boss" list. There are of course good people in Dhaka university, but the system is that they will not be selected to do important jobs.

Let us recall the Shamsunnahar Hall incident. Everybody knows who were responsible for it and how the highly politicised men in charge of running the university played a role in the incident. But nothing was done against them.

A judicial inquiry commission was formed to investigate the matter, but it didn't have the power to recommend any punitive action against the real culprits. Bangladesh is possibly the only country where you can get away with such activities.

You must not forget that the wrongdoers are even rewarded. You know what I mean!
