Our heartfelt thanks to the Editor of The Daily Star for highlighting the Dhamrai incident. The Daily Star as before took the stand by the side of the oppressed minorities as a champion of human rights and dignity.

The demand to bring the culprits to the book is, in fact, the voice of all intellectuals and common people correctly reflected in your editorial.

Since Oct 10, 2001, the coalition government has paid little attention to the security of minority and indigenous population. This has, in turn, encouraged the law and order situation to collapse sharply generating a strong resentment against the government. During last three years, a sizeable number of minority population abandoned their ancestral homes and took shelter in urban areas for safety and security.

In different forums, at home and abroad, this has been ventilated in a very indecent manner telling upon the national image of the country. Therefore, it is the high time for the government to pay attention to this issue without further delay.

Bangladesh has a long heritage of communal harmony. We have the culture of living together, having the same food habits, wearing same style of clothes. No political party or any government or few opportunities have the right to dismantle our tradition of beliefs and brotherhood at any cost. Therefore, in the same language of The Daily Star, we appeal to the government "the incident must not be treated as an ordinary crime" and culprits must be brought to the book immediately.
