Diplomatic fiasco
The formal inauguration of the trade centre of Taiwan in Dhaka has been cancelled. Bangladesh is under diplomatic pressure from China. Bangladesh and China want to perpetuate bilateral relationship. China considers Taiwan as a renegade province, but Taiwan struggles for sovereignty. So, there are traditional and historical disputes between Taiwan and China. As a good friend, Bangladesh supports 'One China Policy'. China is a staunch partner of Bangladesh in development. But Bangladesh has the right to hobnob with any other country for its benefit. Bangladesh can do business with Taiwan. Taiwan has huge FDIs in our country.
The Bangladeshi diplomatic channel has failed to convince China on the Taiwan issue. Bangladesh needs to continue the relations with China, but it should apply its diplomatic know-how for economic mileage.
