I am writing this to register my reaction to the concluding remarks made by the ex-diplomat Muhammad Zamir in his article titled 'Good governance and economic progress' that appeared in DS recently. In his own words, "It is the government's failure that creates the conditions for negative reports. No amount of lobbying by our diplomatic missions abroad can create a favorable image....

Can I put some humble questions before him (i) Doesn't he consider our diplomats part of Bangladesh government? (ii) If yes, then shouldn't the blame of this failure go on an equal measure to those highly polished people? (iii) Does the news of amoral behaviour on the part of the spouse of a diplomat help to create a positive image of Bangladesh? We have read many such stories of 'unacceptable behaviour' by our diplomats and their family members in newspapers and other media at home and abroad.
