Dr. Kabiya's message

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is the apex organisation of the Protestant and Orthodox Churches. Its corporate office is in Geneva. They preach ecumenism to the Churches and justice to mankind. It is very sad to note that the Dr. Kabiya, General Secretary of WCC ,came here during the Easter celebrations along with Mrs. Kabiya and Dr. Mathews George Chunakara, Asia Secretary. We expected that Dr. Kabiya and Dr. Chunakara would bring a message of reconciliation and unity for the Churches of Bangladesh. But alas! They preached the message of disunity and chaos.

On the Easter Day the Metropolitan Christian Community, meet together in the South Plaza of the Parliament for celebrations of the Sunrise Service. This has been a practice for the last 40 years. The Sunrise Worship Service on Easter Day was first started in the then race course now known as Suhrawardy Uddyan. After the liberation of Bangladesh the venue was changed to the Botomul of the Ramna Park. But the Park authorities forced us to leave that place and finally the Speaker of the Parliament was gracious to allow us to hold the Sunrise Service (Easter Day) at the South Plaza of the Parliament).

Dr. Kabiya and Dr. Chunakara of WCC and their associates held a separate Sunrise Service in the stadium at Mirpur. Why this division and disunity in the microscopic Christian community? Dr. Kabiya is a wise and intelligent man. I am sure he was aware of it and should not have encouraged such a division and disunity among the Christian community.

If Dr. Kabiya says that he was not aware or his associates didn't inform him, it would be a lame excuse. As the head of the world body he should have known it.
