Education and law

This is in connection with two letters, Suraiya Zafar's on Dec 14 and Mahboob Hossain's on Dec 25, on a new family planning law and eradication of poverty respectively. There is no doubt that education is the biggest requirement for solving a great lot of problems which prevail in today's world. Dr. Mahboob has opposed the view of Suraiya Zafar on introduction of a new family planning law to control poverty, and instead suggested strict enforcement of education and also talked about establishing 'social justice'.

Here I would like to raise a point which might have been overlooked while talking about 'social justice'. We cannot deny that a large number of countries of the world are reeling under the menace of high-tech crimes which arise out of a fair amount of education in society. Education has its hazards too! Hence, strict laws, alongside education, are necessary for a decent civilised society.

Thanks to Dr. Mahboob Hossain of Niigata, Japan, for his concrete suggestion that he sent as a feedback for my mail on the above subject. Yes, of course I do agree with him that education is a must for all. But education alone will not help unless we can create a favourable job situation for these poor people so that they do not have to compel their children to earn money for their living at a premature age, which is absolutely inhuman. Only our government can come forward to help the poor people to find suitable jobs. We, the common people, although we have all the feelings and ideas, are useless in this particular field. However, along with education, we do need to enforce some strict rules to be followed by all citizens to keep the size of our population according to the size of our land.
