Electoral reform
In Bangladesh, the past regime's initiatives are frequently and indiscriminately given up by the next regime. After the liberation of Bangladesh, cricket was discouraged with the plea that it is a colonial (?) game. However, Bangladesh is now a Test playing country.
The drug policy of the Ershad regime was a sound one, but it was not followed by the governments later on. So, the 'Health for all by the year 2000' slogan went in vein.
The former Election Commissioner Justice M. A. Syed said there is no alternative to an electronic voter database. Now, we watch almost all the countries around going for electronically readable National ID/ Birth registration/ Voter ID etc., all in one card, including our neighbouring countries.
Is our Election Commission aware of all these developments?
