Encourage more girls to go to school
On March 7, The Daily Star published a report titled “42 pc girls drop out before SSC”. The news that nearly half of all girls drop out before sitting for their SSC examination is alarming.

The government should form committees at the grassroots level to identify the reasons for this, talk to the guardians of those dropping out, and try to encourage them to go back to school. In that regard, it may be important to mention that there have been numerous cases where intervention by Upazilla administrators successfully thwarted child marriages, which is a major cause for girls dropping out of school. Hence, a joint effort by local administrators and the community may help improve the current scenario.
