Feedback on Mr Kibria's write-up
I want to make some comments after reading the article by former finance minister SAMS Kibria and the rejoinder of Justice Latifur Rahman, the former chief of the caretaker government of Bangladesh. I think many would not argue that Mr Kibria, a bureaucrat turned politician was not so successful as a finance minister. I felt that he tried to vilify Mr Latifur Rahman deliberately. He became the chief of the caretaker government as per the Constitution of Bangladesh. Before election, AL kept mum but after their election debacle they maligned Mr Latifur Rahman as a perfidious person.
But frankly speaking, after the 14th amendment of the Constitution we became very skeptical about the caretaker government. So caretaker government system may be reformed, but it should be done politically. For this all the political parties in the parliament should come to a consensus on this. Otherwise our nascent democracy will tumble in the future.
