The governments in the past failed to safeguard the country's interests.

The first mistake was made (during Pakistan time) when a neighbouring country was allowed to go for the construction of Farakka barrage. It has become a death trap for the country.

The second mistake was the signing of the 25 year treaty of friendship with India. We surrendered all our interests by signing itsomething unique in history.

Now the gas pipeline issue has arisen. Our negotiators should be on guard to make sure that the interests of the country are not hurt in any way. It needs a high degree of skill and honesty on the part of the officials to hold their in any bargain.
