Higher education in disarray!
We are experiencing a mushroom growth of private universities. There are now more than fifty private universities in Bangladesh, whereas the number of public universities is only sixteen.
Ours is a poor country. The data mentioned above implies that education is being commercialised and therefore poor students are not getting session-jam- free education. All the public universities are very much prone to political violence and that results in loss of time, which, in turn, creates insurmountable problems for the students. Moreover, the number of private universities indicates that there has been a drastic change in our outlook as far as education is concerned.
As a citizen of this country, I demand prompt government action to dispel the negative implications of the Private University Act. This is both a plea and a word of caution.
