Students of Dhaka University played vital roles in all the historic events of Bangladesh. They sacrificed their lives for the welfare of the people of this country. They always stood against social injustice and exploitation. Language Movement in '52, Mass Upsurge against Ayub Khan in '69 and the Liberation War in '71 are major examples of their ineffaceable contribution. None of these achievements came without the bloodshed of the students of this university. The whole nation is indebted to them.

The things mentioned above are now history. The university as well as its students no more have the image they once had. Rather DU has a new image of violent student politics, extortion, murder and sine die strikes and whimsical teacher politics. This university remains closed for more days than it remains open for holding classes. Here students do more politics than their studies while teachers concentrate more on politics than research and teaching. Teachers divide themselves into different colours to get touch of power and thus fight one another, which ends in destruction of valuable student life.

Dhaka University has recently undergone two strikes called by the teachers association and some anti-government student alliance for their respective demands. The general students of the university had nothing to do with these strikes. They don't feel any sympathy for these strikers. Such strikes have never been called for the sake of common students. These untoward closures always harm students by unnecessarily prolonging their student life. Bangladesh was liberated 33 years back with a vow to restore peace, happiness and prosperity . However in the last 33 years the people hardly found taste of peace and happiness. Prosperity is a far cry here whereas backwardness is prevalent all around. The quality of the country's prime sectors has gone down alarmingly. The worst affected one is education sector but it is called the backbone of the nation. Dhaka University, one of the prime educational institutions for higher studies, has become a hub of political activities.

With more politics and less study, this university is becoming the second choice of the students from middle and upper classes. Only financially poor students still dream to be a student of this university, for they have no other choice. As a big portion of good students is now reluctant to enter this university, the intensity of competition in this university's admission test in terms of merit is declining.

Students of this university want a way out of this uncertain situation so that they can pass out in due time and get into their professional career. For this we don't want to suggest anything since we believe the authorities concerned best know what to do. Our days are gone but we don't want the coming generation's life to be as bad as ours. I wish to see a bright future for them.
