Import of cars

The country has to spend a lot of foreign exchange on import of cars specially second hand cars. The roads of Dhaka are already overcrowded and air polluted. There is also long term drainage of hard earned foreign exchange for fuel import. We badly need foreign exchange for import of capital machinery and industrial raw materials.

Bangladesh is one of the poorest countries in the world. Under the circumstances, our honeymoon with cars should have been over long ago. Hence I suggest that import of secondhand and reconditioned cars should be banned immediately and customs duty on new cars should also be raised substantially to discourage import. We need more public transport. Hence duties on buses should be reduced. To save foreign exchange on import of fuel, imported cars, buses and trucks should be built to run on CNG .

Will the Ministry of Energy look into it?
