Introduce democratic culture
Since the ouster of the autocratic regime in 1990, he nation has been passing through one crisis after another. There have been three elections in the last fifteen years but none of the defeated party conceded defeat after the Election Commission had announced the results. The political parties have yet to adopt a democratic culture which should start by holding elections within the parties themselves. Presently, parties are run by one person's dictates; free exchange of views within the members is not encouraged. The members of parliament are not allowed to discuss or raise any issue pertaining to their constituencies without prior approval of party leaders. As such, the members are nothing but puppets. A huge amount of money is being spent from the public exchequer for the upkeep of these members of parliament bringing no good to the people. In fact, the members of parliament avail the opportunity of being elected as an occasion for self aggrandisement. A poor nation like Bangladesh, whose per capita income is around US$360.00 i.e. less than a dollar a day has to pay huge bills for the great tamasha that goes on in the parliament.
The nation has suffered enough in terms of loss of lives and wanton destruction of properties. Sanity should now prevail amongst the political parties.
