I could not imagine that it will be like this, when I first heard the news on BBC. Supreme Court is the apex court of the country and till now the judges of the court are supposed to be the most honest and neutral persons (except few isolated incidents) in the country which ranked first in the list of corruption. Judges in the service are quite independent in the exercise of their judicial functions. But the incident that happened on the 31st August 2005, that two detective members of law enforcing agencies brought a judge down from his seat while he was doing his job, was outright demolition of the position. It was obviously because the judge declared that the 5th amendment to the constitution was illegal. It is quite palpable that the government would react as the verdict went against BNP formed under the leadership of late president Ziaur Rahman, whose reign was also declared illegal. Certainly the government is totally embarrassed and being desperate it sought postponement of the verdict. We the conscious citizens of the country cannot accept such blatant act on our honoured judicial service, as it is our ultimate and last resort where we go being disappointed by all the corrupted administrative wings. We are too much incensed and strongly condemn this act which is considered as a severe menace to our judicial service and a clear violation of our constitution. We hope government will apologise for its such unlawful and unconstitutional act. Otherwise respect to the judicial service will be diluted which may be difficult for the government to restore.
