Khutba at Friday prayer

I am thankful to "A reader" for bringing up this sensitive subject. By and large the Imams in Jumma prayers take advantage of our limited understanding of Arabic by inserting extraneous subjects during Khutba. Longer the Munajat with mention of " Jihad" in Palestine, Kashmir and Chechnia, more effective it is!

These Imams have no inkling that human race is violating Allah's laws and courting disaster in the form of global warming and climate change. In the next 10/20 years, rise of sea level and shortage of fresh water are going to be a life and death issue for us. They dwell more on how to '" erase 70 years' sin" by chanting this and that.

In Gulshan Central Mosque where a very enlightened crowd attends prayers, there is one very respected Khatib frequently inserting such epithets in his sermons as "bedin", "Kaffir" and "Nasara" not with any goodwill ! Christians and Jews are part of the monotheistic brotherly religions and they deserve full respect. The Muslims disagree with Hindus and Buddhists in their mode of worship and religious philosophy. But they have moral values and preach peace and goodwill to mankind. They don't deserve to be called "bedin" or " kaffir".

Lastly, I would like to quote one Quranic revelation on religious differences: " For appointed a law and a path ; if God had wished He could have made you one people. So vie with one another in good works."
