Local hooligans
It is clear from the story about Pichchi Hannan (DS Aug. 7) that corrupt practices in the police organization encouraged the growth of terrorists and toll collectors, some of whom were patronized by the police on duty. The notorious criminals are getting media publicity, but the flushing of the evil system (in politics and civil service) is not being talked about by the political masters who run the country.
The same is the callous attitude on other top national problems such as separation of the judiciary, disciplinary action against political field workers, the solving of the bombings in Sylhet, and the arms haul in the urea factory jetty in Chittagong.
Showmanship needs credibility for sustenance. There is too much mike politics. Our political workers cannot work silently in the background. The criminals are naming political godfathers behind the scenes.
The cabinet has to adopt a different approach to the problem facing the country.
