Many Shefalis!
Shefali, a 26 year old woman, advertised in the newspaper to sell her eye as she does not have any work or capability to feed her two and a half year old girl. Selling a human organ is prohibited during lifetime. But Shefali has been the one who has no way other than selling her eye. She was left by her husband a few months back and is now living in a slum in Dhaka City. With her child, she cannot find work. She has none that can provide her shelter and food. This was a pathetic tale aired by BBC on 20 April.
In Bangladesh, there are many Shefalis whose voices are unheard. The tale of Shefali elicits the truth of extreme vulnerability of women left by husbands.
The government and affluent people should extend help to these women.
We don't want to hear any more such news.
