Minting money

I never harboured any ills against the myriad of coaching centres dotting our country like bees in a hive, most of which devoid of any standard, alluring naive students and vying to make money alone under hosts of hazy pledges and pretexts! Still I feel bad when someone gets caught in its web unaware that, these mindless moneymaking centres of 'knowledge' also operate on absolute whims and caprices of their super-rich owners.

I visited one such centre recently to do IELTS and was advised by their senior personnel to attend there so called 'orientation session'. Which was supposedly a free session as they said, to observe the centre's competence and decide on my admission to such course while making payment the next morning. Cornered and time constrained, I bargained a rate for the course (as I had to) and felt settled with the issue.

With two confusing timings for the 'orientation session' due on the same day, I didn't take a chance and arrived at the centre at the earliest timing - only to be curtly turned away by the owner of the centre himself. He debarred me from attending his so called 'orientation session' saying that, "It is against his centre's rule to attend even the 'orientation session' without making any payment first!" I pleaded with him to allow me, as their senior personnel already phoned me and invited to attend. All my requests grounded, the owner was rigid as rock saying, and "They can't allow such attendance without payment, no matter who assured earlier!"

Now, isn't it about time something was done to put an end to this kind of exploitation of students?
