Mutual Respect
There are many true examples around us in our country. The opposition party tried to defame the country's image globally by saying that there were Al-Qaida network in Bangladesh, which would have serious consequences not only to the BNP but also to the whole nation. On the other hand, in the recent visit of opposition leader Sheikh Hasina in Germany, she urged German government for more investment to the our country, which should be encouraged by the government where one of the prominent leaders of BNP disparaged.
I was surprised in my recent visit to Washington DC by observing the respect of Americans to their leaders regardless of Democrat or Rrepublican. Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial or the graveyard of Kennedy on the top of Arlington Cemetery reflects the mutual respect of the nation's two prominent parties. This can be realized by visiting the Smithsonian Museum of American history where the nation recognises the contributions of its leaders and the nation pays the highest respect to them.
Unfortunately we are still divided to pay respect to Bangabandu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Late President Ziaur Rahman because we cannot come out of our narrow thoughts. It is necessary to learn mutual respect to each other not only in politics but all sectors of our daily life to advance the nation's socio-economic condition.
