No crossfire, please!
We should not give a hoot when we see another criminal getting caught in Rab's crossfire. No matter how people appreciate the permanent departures of some criminals from their neighbourhood, the State should not sanction these extra-judicial killings. Catch criminals and prosecute them vigorously. If we want to see Bangladesh to be based on rule of law, we should strengthen our judicial system and law enforcement agencies, rather than cheering for the government sponsored killings. No country has ever got rid of their criminals with this kind of draconian method.
I don't believe that these criminals work in the vacuum. There is no doubt that some criminals are being protected by vested quarters and will never be crossfire victims. That means that the system is not fair and can easily be extended to kill our brothers and sisters who may hold a 'different political view'. And, I can say right now, that would be the eventual price that we might have to pay unless this madness is stopped!
